Né en 1947 en Alabama, Thomas H. Cook a été professeur d'histoire et secrétaire de rédaction au magazine Atlanta avant de se consacrer entièrement à l'écriture. Quand il a entrepris la rédaction de son premier roman policier, il n'en avait pas lu un seul. Depuis, il en a signé près de trente. Un Edgar Award a récompensé Au Lieu-dit Noir-Étang (Le Seuil, 2012). L'auteur partage son temps entre New York et Culver City, mais il rêve de venir s'installer en France.
